The participants in this workshop will learn techniques for interpreting lyrics, poetry and music into American Sign Language; including, rhyme, meter, tempo, poetic expression, idiomatic terminology, imagery, flow, conceptual equivalency, E.L.K., glossing and choreographing. Participants are asked to bring a printed copy of their favorite song. They will demonstrate techniques learned by being able to gloss and perform a song of choice. Hands-on practices, break-out groups, techniques, resources, and study aids will also be provided to participants. .5 CEUs will be provided.

This workshop will focus on keeping up with filling out, processing, submitting and filing standard paperwork related to freelance interpreting and helpful tips to keeping yourself organized and most importantly keeping yourself out of trouble. Topics will include new HIPPA regulations for 2016, filing taxes (w-2s, 1099s, exemptions and tax write-offs), how to incorporation of your business or name, getting interpreters’ insurance, professional memberships, certification and licensure, business bank accounts, proper billing & invoicing, contracts, job applications, record keeping, electronic submissions, organizational apps, computer programs, and protecting all modes of business communications. Hands-on practices, break-out groups, techniques, resources, and study aids will also be provided to participants. .6 CEUs will be provided.
